The
Consequences for Holding onto Jealousy
by Susie and Otto Collins
The first step to healing jealousy in your life
is to become
conscious and aware of the challenges, problems
and damage
that is being created because of either your
jealousy or
another person's jealous thoughts and actions.
Now, this may seem obvious because you've been
living
with it but we invite you to take a conscious
look at what
havoc is being caused by jealousy in your life.
We invite you to look beyond the obvious
situations and
person that jealousy whirls around because it
usually shows
up in more than one area of your life and with
more than
one person.
It might be that you have been jealous, to
various degrees
of the intimate partners you have had in your
life. It might
also show up in work relationships, when other
people
seem to get raises or promotions or perks and
you don't.
It might be that you are jealous of the way
other people
look, their talents or the amount of money they
have.
You may be able to identify with several of
these examples.
The point is to become aware of the pain that is
happening
to you, your spouse, your co-workers, or family
members
because jealousy is being acted out in some form
or another.
Even if you try to bury your jealousy and never
verbalize it
to anyone, you have to realize that you are
building walls and
separation between you and other people until
you deal with
it and heal what's underneath.
Whether you requested this mini-course because
you are
jealous or because someone in your life is
jealous, begin to
ask yourself what is happening as a result of
this behavior.
Take a moment right now and make a list of how
your relationships
are impacted because of jealousy, from the
obvious to the
not-so-obvious.
Your healing can begin only when you start to
become aware
of how you and your relationships are being
affected by
jealous actions, words and thoughts.
As you make your list, remember to breathe and
to know
that this is the first step in your healing
process.
